On my 'grand journey' from Brisbane to Sydney I thought "damn Sydney, you big!" and was all kind of "what if I get lost!" or "what if I get mugged like Jonny" but it turns out if you dont leave Surry Hills the entire time, you'll be fine! Surry Hills has a variety of 'hot spots' and I cant remember the name of some of them, so i'll just describe them if I need to!
The Modular office's are a pretty happening place (I can't 'disclose the location'), it has all the V a man could drink, giant neon signs and a disco ball in the corner. Also it's kind of just a 'bunch of bros' 'ribbing' each other whilst also throwing around some 'mad' ideas.
Lunch is a pretty 'big deal' in Surry Hills, seems like it's bigger than dinner maybe. Maybe. 'Slow Sandwiches' or 'Crack Sandwhiches' (the tandoori one) is probably the greatest sandwich 'ever'. I think pitchfork would probably give the sandwich a '9.0'/'best new music' and the sandwich would be on like one of their tv special things. I don't know what Polaroids of Androids would give it, probably a 7.6. There's also a place that has $10 schnitzels and who doesn't like things that are $10?
Speaking of which, "Shakey's" has a mad selection of $10 meals that are at least $18 in quality. The whole place has this 'old school' aesthetic, 'pre adobe photoshop' probably. Combined with cans of coke for '99 cents', there's some true "listening to Notorious B.I.G, riding your fixie to play Super Smash Brothers at a friends house" prices going on in Surry Hills.
After a hard afternoon of blogging/idea creation/winning twitter, some Beers could be needed. There are usually a few floating around the office but for an authentic experience 'The Cricketers Arm' or 'coopers red tallies on the balcony of your terrace' will really help you 'chill'.
As far as live music goes, I dont remember Bar 77 that well, except I think the Beasties Boys or Nas were there? Also The Vivian Girls played a show on a roundabout near where I was staying. Is this a regular occurrence? Confused. Seems like everyone in Surry Hills is either a DJ or 'dating a DJ' so some rad tunes are sure to be spun.
Overall it seems like Surry Hills is a place you can 'really find yourself' in/not leave for a few years and then be really confused/scared of the outside world.

hey guys, fair go, give him a break...
why is everybody getting so cut?
some of these comments are proving sydney is full of hipper-than-thou douchebags who have nothing better to offer than 'how to be cool' pointers. chillax! i enjoyed the naivete of this article. good for u Mr Brisbane. xx
Lame...
All this guy is saying is that Surrey Hills is like it's own hub, which it is. No need to get offended, this is how it looks to people coming into it for the first time. I'm sure Josh will love it the longer he stays...
Ahh I know the cricketers arms! I've spent many an enjoyable hour there. I'm right near there at a studio about 30 meters away, an afternoon or two a week. Have you tried wandering over to Paddington? I'd HIGHLY recommend it. There is a cafe called 'The cafe...' which has the best homemade lemonade and brownies... Sounds like your having a geat time though, hope you enjoy the stay in sydney! And don't mind the haters, I'm sure they're just jealous you beat them to such a sweet spot at Modular!
I second that Stephen! Don't hate, congratulate!
I think this reads kinda cute!
sorry bout the haters Josh. i kind of feel embarrassed on their behalf. i enjoyed reading this...think you 'summed it up well'
