When I went through the final stage of applying for the Channel V, V Raw internship I attended the interview at the XYZ Networks offices at FOXTEL in North Ryde. I could tell from the moment I walked in the door that this was where I wanted to be. The floor was buzzing with friendly faces and a bunch of hard working music lovers.

A few days later I got the call that I had made it through and would be doing three days a week for four weeks with Channel V. On my first day I took a moment to stand outside the FOXTEL building, looking up at the big orange sign and got that flush of excitement, when you know that you are about to embark on something huge.

The amazing thing about working within the Music Channels at XYZ Networks is the passion and knowledge everyone has of music. Yes, music is what they are dealing with on a day-to-day basis, but being immersed in music conversation and debate amongst the staff is something truly inspiring for a music lover. Each desk in the Music Channels offices has a TV constantly streaming the music channels which often fuels opinions and debates as various clips play throughout the day.

One thing that stood out for a person like myself who has been through various unpaid roles and internships was how generous the staff were with their time. Each of the different departments were prepared to teach me the proper methods to get things done and how their work contributed to producing all the on air material. At the beginning of my time at Channel V I sat down with the legendary Stella Wong, head of marketing for XYZ Music Channels. She took me through the various teams in the office and identified all the places she thought I might enjoy getting some experience. This way each week I had a stint in each department. I even sat in with the production team on one of the film shoots of V Music News, which was great fun. Doing my internship this way really broadened my knowledge of the available options in the music marketing industry, appropriate for someone ambivalent about their career like myself.

Luckily my time at the internship coincided with the search for the new Channel V Presenter. The office was overwhelmed with applications for the position and I was fortunate enough to be putting all the applications through the system so I got to watch the video applications and witness the buzz of excitement surrounding the search for the next VJ. I also worked on different promotional competitions and saw how marketing deals work between the various music Channels when they promote a touring artist or event.

You certainly know you are in the right direction when you wake up every morning excited to go to work and that was what working at Channel V as a Marketing Assistant was like for me. Thank you V Raw for organising such great and relevant industry opportunities. Thank you to XYZ Networks, particularly the Music Marketing Team for teaching me so much and being so warm and generous.

V Raw Intern Blog - Jasmine Kurda at People's Republic of Animation

Holy moly, these V Raw intern blog posts keep-a-comin', and we can't get enough. This time around, Jasmine Kurda was the "chosen one" who got to intern her heart at The People's Republic of Animation in Adelaide, the studio behind the very awesome The Cat Piano and more. And by the sounds (and looks) of things, she had a right blast.

To the team at V Raw,

I'm in week 3 of my internship at The People's Republic of Animation, and so far it has been an incredible experience! The opportunity to work with the fun, creative team at this studio has provided me with new insights and skills to help develop my career as a 3D artist.

During my time at The PRA, I have been involved in a number of activities, highlights including research development for an upcoming TV show, making a short South Park style 3D animation and going on a cinema trip with the studio staff to see the latest Hayao Miyazaki film, Ponyo!

This amazing experience could not have been possible without the opportunity provided by you guys at V Raw, and of course by the awesome team of guys and girls at The People's Republic of Animation. Thank you all very much!

1 - Desk - Well, this is where I've been spending most of my time... animating things.

2 - Chalk Wall - The PRA's wall of doodles, catchphrases, and general oddities involving chalk

3 - Foosball Table - I've learned that The PRA's sport/pastime of choice is the almighty fooseball championship... bringing a bit of competition to lunch breaks and the like

4 - Working - And finally heres the one of me doing my thing and working away.

With past winners like Melbourne three piece My Disco, this year's shortlist, spread across seven categories including fashion, film and music is looking pretty prime itself with past Raw Cast peeps Dan and Cybele both receiving a nod - great work guys! Check out the full list for yourself.

Smells Like a Cliche Nirvana Post Title

What with Kurt Cobain coming back from the dead (via Guitar Hero 5) and all, Nirvana-fever seems to have hit an all time high with a recent resurgence in the ultimate grunge bros thanks to a bunch of upcoming releases across several new, traditional and slightly left-of-field media platforms.

Even though it's been fifteen years since Kurt's untimely death, the Nirvana brand is alive and well with many a Gen X-er's Christmas list looking pretty much like this:

GUITAR HERO 5 As previously mentioned, Kurt's likeness right have been handed over to the folks at Activision who have digitised him (Daniel Johnston shirt and all) and flipped the Frankenstein-like switch on their polygon, pioneer of grunge. Looks less "alive" than in real life right now - what's up uncanny valley!?

BLEACH REISSUE Sub Pop will be reissuing Nirvana's legendary 1989 debut, Bleach, to celebrate it's 20th birthday! You're old! The classic will be getting the 'ol bonus disc treatment, with a recording of a never-before-released 1990 live show at Portland's Pine Street Theatre - plus a beefy 48 page booklet with pics and words. Impress your friends with your newfound Nirvana knowledge bombs!

NIKE'S SUB POP SNEAKER So not entirely Nirvana related, but c'mon, you'd be stumped to try and find a bigger band who was on the Sub Pop label. Opting for the bumble colour scheme (yellow/black) the Sub Pop sneaker looks, well, unique to say the least.

LIVE AT READING CD/DVD We've all seen snippets on YouTube and Live! Tonight! Sold Out!!, but now Nirvana's legendary 1992 performance at the Reading Festival will be hitting shelves just in time for the silly season, in its complete, uncut and remastered glory. Watch Kurt come out on stage in a wheelchair! Watch a band on top of the world give UK punters the show of their lives! Miss you, Kurt.

Consider us tickled pink. Between this and The Beatles catalogue remasters, spirits will be high while our bank accounts are at an all time low. And without sounding too cynical, the Cobain Estate will be having a good Christmas too by the looks of it…
