Description: Oyster began as a bi-monthly glossy fashion magazine. We focus on the cutting edge in fashion, music, film and lifestyle. We have now expanded to include an online video portal, Oyster Vision, as well as a website. Both Oyster Vision and Oyster Online are extensions of Oyster’s ideals.
Position: Online Editorial Intern.
Location: Sydney.
Paid or Unpaid: Unpaid.
Length of contract: 1 month, with the possibility of further work.
Start date – end date: August/September – TBC with final recruit.
Job Description: An editorial internship is primarily a writing and sub-editing position. You will be writing content for the Oyster website, including short news articles and longer pieces, interviewing bands and fashion designers, writing CD reviews and sub-editing copy for the magazine. Exceptional candidates may be given the opportunity to write for the magazine. You will also be using the Oyster website’s content management system to upload stories, and working with social media. This position will also involve some administrative duties like answering telephone and email enquiries.
Requirements, preferred experience, skills and competencies:
- An exceptionally high level of written English is required for this position.
- Candidates will ideally have had work published before.
- Previous experience sub-editing or proofreading will be looked upon extremely favourably.
- Candidates need high levels of IT literacy, and an ability to work well with technology. Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
and InDesign will be looked upon extremely favourably.
- Candidates must have a good knowledge of Apple computers.
- Candidates who have completed, or are currently undertaking a university degree are preferred.
- Past experience working for an online or print media outlet will be looked upon extremely favourably.
- Candidates will ideally have an interest in fashion, indie music and art.
- Candidates must be able to work closely with others, including those in a supervisory position.
- Candidates must also be able to work autonomously, and seek out their own work during quiet times.
